Cardamom is related to ginger and you can taste it: the flavour is delicately sweet. These intensely aromatic pods are used whole or their seeds are removed and used in various Asian dishes, stews and chutneys. Cardamom is also delicious in baked goods, such as apple pies, cookies as well as desserts and mulled wine.
Tip: Try cooking some whole cardamom pods with rice: delightful with a curry! You can also slice the pod open with a sharp knife and then finely grind the dark seeds. This is handy if you want to incorporate cardamom into dough, for example.
