Nutmeg is the hard, dried seed of the fruit of the fragrant nutmeg, a tree native to Indonesia. Nutmeg has a strong and warming spicy flavour and a wonderful aroma. Grate or grind over vegetables such as beans and Brussels sprouts. It also makes a great addition to mashed potatoes or to a cheese or béchamel sauce. Nutmeg is also one of the spices used in speculaas spices and mixed spice.

Tip: always grate or grind nutmeg fresh just before you want to use it. Pre-ground powder loses flavour and aroma quickly.
